Mommy's Trip to DC

This last week I broke 1000 sales on Etsy in less than 2 years. That represents a lot of work and family sacrifice. Thank you Family!!! We also watched baby Jane (Kallene and Paul's baby). She is adorable and the boys love being with her so much! (Especially giving her toys like Duplos!)

On Thursday Mommy(I) left for Washington DC to surprise and see Ruth preform in the Easter production Savior of the World at the Washington DC temple.

I traveled with my mom (dad was kind enough to fly us out withe his flyer miles), and we stayed Thursday with Brett's family. To get ready for the trip I had to pull an all-nighter sewing and only slept a little on the airplane. Thursday night although the family wanted to interact and have fun, by the time it was 10:45, I just couldn't stay up anymore and finally went to bed. I slept until noon the next day and felt so much better upon waking!

A couple hours later we started the 3.75 hour drive to DC. I was able to get some hand sewing done in the car and sewed up 5 bow ties. We got to DC just in time Ruth's production and she was fantastic. She has so much energy, passion, and emotion as she preforms, it was completely believable that she was experiencing what her character was supposed to be feeling. The other actors portraying, Jesus, Mary Mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene were also fantastic. It was a beautiful reminder of the life and sacrifice of our Savior, and right before Easter! I hope it can help drive me to a good Easter season filled with the Savior for our children. Oh, and Ruth was SO surprised to see mom and I that she cried! It was awesome!

We went to dinner and then it was decided that I would sleep at Ruth's home and we'd go run the DC mall of monuments the next morning. After not much sleep we woke up and went for a wonderful run in the rain. There were only a few other joggers out that early in the morning so we had the monuments to ourselves and it was amazing to run that route with Ruth. She loves living in DC and it suits her personality and ambitions so well. I'll treasure that morning with her forever.

We started running at the Lincoln Memorial, then to the WWII memorials and Washington Memorial. Then we looped around past the Korean War, WWI, and FDR memorials up to the Jefferson Memorial. Then we ran back to Washington and up to the Capital Building! Then turned around and ran past many Smithsonian and all the way back to Lincoln where we parked. Due to the rain, the river was casting a misty haze over everything which made the experience almost magical. It was such a good reminder of the sacrifices our Fore Fathers made for us to be free. It was also apparent by the thoughts/quotes and reverent feeling apparent at these monuments, that they men were inspired and led by God. We live in an amazing God prepared, country and I love being American.

Here's the family at Mt. Vernon. Very rainy the whole time we were there!

I'm so grateful to Kallene and Kelv who have been managing the boys while I've been away. They have both been sacrificing a lot and that means so much to me. Kelv has been keeping the boys busy with fun things so he'll have to post pictures of the fun things he's been doing too.

Kelv looking dapper in the suspenders I made for a large wedding order!
